Foras na Gaeilge welcome Ministerial Council Decisions 4th of July 2008

Foras Na Gaeilge welcomes the decision made by the North / South Ministerial Council today, to allow seven new positions to be filled in the Foras, five in Gweedore and two in Belfast. At a meeting of the North / South Ministerial Council in Limavady, Co. Derry, a decision was made to expedite the Foras’s decentralization process by permitting five senior positions. These include positions at the level of Director, Editor, Assistant Editor and Senior Executive Officer.

Speaking after the meeting, Ferdie Mac an Fhailigh the Chief Executive of Foras na Gaeilge said “I am delighted that the North / South Ministerial Council have made this decision today. This decision enables us to commence the decentralisation process. We intend to advertise the senior positions sanctioned today and fill them as soon as possible.

A decision was also made to transfer the functions, staff and funding of ‘Colmcille’ from the sponsor departments to Foras na Gaeilge. The aims of ‘Colmcille’ are to promote the Gaelic languages, Irish and Scottish Gaelic in Ireland and to promote links between the language communities in both Ireland and Scotland. It is intended to create a partnership between Foras na Gaeilge and Bórd na Gáidhlig to promote the aims and targets of Colmcille’.
