Ahern Welcomes Planning Applications For Decentralised Offices In Portlaoise, Mullingar And Carlow

Minister of State Noel Ahern TD, today welcomed the lodging of planning applications for the largest building project under the Governments decentralisation programme.

The Minister said "Planning applications are now being sought by the preferred tenderer, The Macquarie Partnership Ltd., for the construction of Office accommodation for almost 1,500 staff from the Departments of Agriculture and Food, Education, and Enterprise Trade and Employment. This figure represents approximately 15% of the total staff number due to decentralise and the project will be one of the largest ever undertaken by the OPW. In total over 35,000m2 of office space will be provided along with appropriate car parking facilities in the three locations - Portlaoise (approximately 850 people), Mullingar (approximately 321 people) and Carlow (approximately 300 people) - on sites acquired by the OPW".

The Minister continued, "having visited many new decentralised offices and several that are currently under construction, I am pleased to see that two more departmental headquarters are included in these applications - Portlaoise and Mullingar, and they will join those headquarters currently under construction in Killarney, Wexford, and Trim".
