Dr. Martin Mansergh, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works today announced that a contract has been placed for the new Decentralised Headquarters for the Department of Defence in Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

Speaking about the contract Dr. Mansergh said “I’m pleased to announce that the Office of Public Works has placed a contract with P. Elliott & Co. Ltd. for the design and construction of this landmark building in Newbridge. The contract is in the sum of €22m and will involve the construction of a new three storey headquarters of around 7,500 square metres in area and house approximately 260 staff. This building is separate to the proposed Defence forces building on the Curragh”.

The Minister continued, “I am pleased to see that yet another contract for a Departmental headquarters has now been awarded, adding to those currently going through the planning process, – Portlaoise and Mullingar, and indeed the others currently under construction in Killarney, Wexford, and Trim. This is yet further evidence, if it were needed, of the continued roll out of decentralisation throughout the country and will be most welcomed by the staff currently in the Department and waiting to move to Newbridge”.
