Minister Noel Ahern T.D. Announces Acceptance Of Tender For New Buncrana Government Offices

13th November 2007 PRESS RELEASE

Noel Ahern, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works today announced that the OPW has accepted the tender of Michael McNamara & Co. for the construction of the new Government Buildings in Buncrana, County Donegal.

Minister Ahern said "I'm delighted to announce today that the OPW has accepted the tender of Michael McNamara & Co for the construction of a new local and decentralised office of the Department of Social and Family Affairs and also a new Garda Station in Buncrana. The contract is valued at €17.5M and I'm confident that the contractor will begin construction in the next few weeks with the construction period taking 21 months in total". The Minister continued "This is particularly good news for Donegal which will soon benefit substantially from the decentralisation process with the arrival of 120 civil servants to join the staff already in the County. It is also a much needed boost to the Garda Siochána in the town as their new station will provide them with state of the art facilities and allow them to move from their current temporary premises in the Lisfannon Industrial Estate. The new Garda Station will be a three storey building, as will the new decentralised office for the Department of Social and Family Affairs. The new local office for the Department will be a new two storey building and will allow local staff move from their current temporary base in Castle Avenue".
